The good news and the bad news

The good news:

My recent upgrades to the mainsheet system and kicker worked well. It was a gusty force 4 at Frensham and I was second round the first mark and doing well. The boat felt fast even though I wasn't brave enough to put my new North P2 on - I used the older dacron Purple sail (this turned out to be a good thing). There were eight or nine Solos in the race.

The bad news:

The gybe round the mark at the end of the first lap didn't go so well. Just as I gybed there was a big gust of wind that flattened me (I wasn't the first Solo in the drink - the race leader had gone in a couple of minutes before me!). I got on to the centreboard quickly and started to pull the boat up again. Then I looked down at my sail...  😢
