New... Allen XG1 Solo mast

I was fortunate enough to see the new Allen Solo mast being made just before the launch at the Dinghy Show in Feb this year. One of the things they don't mention in the product description is that the weld is not visible - they polish and smooth it so it is invisible - rather nice.

There has not been a lot of information available and until recently there was nothing on the Allen or GOAT Marine websites, despite the new Allen mast and boom being displayed on the GOAT stand. So I wrote to GOAT and asked them if was actually available yet and what the details are - and I now have the details.

Something you might have missed in the marine press is that GOAT have bought out P&B. So the mast is available either from GOAT or P&B and has just been added to the P&B website - here is the link.

The mast costs £875 which is comparable with the Superspars and Selden Solo masts. Allen Brothers told me that the mast is very light - they could have made it below the minimum weight - so the weight is lower down than other masts which is obviously an advantage. It comes with an extended gooseneck too, according to P&B.

I asked about the flexibility and GOAT told me that it is very similar to the Superspars M2 which has won the Solo Nationals in 2023 and 2024.

Booms don't get a lot of attention, but there is also a new Allen XGB1 boom which looks rather nice - yours for £375.
