Front-Mounted Wind Indicator

Do you have a broken Little Hawk wind indicator like those often found on Lasers (and quite a few Solos too)?

I wanted a wind indicator further forward than the mast as it would be more naturally in my line of sight. And I had a broken Little Hawk Mk2 from my previous boat.

I discovered that M4 size bolts would fit through the forestay adjuster holes, so I drilled a hole in a spare block of Acetal plastic (eBay is your friend) big enough for the arm of the indicator to fit and then - on another bit of Acetal - added some bolts to match up with a couple of the shroud adjuster holes. There is also a small screw to make sure the wind indicator arm doesn't slip out.

I bolted the two bits of plastic together so I could adjust the angle to the deck (friction keeps the two blocks from moving during the race). I added a wingnut on one of the bolts through the shroud adjuster to make sure it all stays on. You can get stainless wingnuts, but I went for plastic as it is lighter.

Works nicely...
